New Delhi /Jakarta : Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has praised India’s democratic system, governance model, and development journey, describing India as a nation with remarkable achievements at both the national and state levels.
Addressing a community event in Jakarta, President Prabowo said that shortly before his state visit to India, he underwent a DNA test and discovered that he “has Indian DNA.” He made the remark while highlighting the deep historical and cultural connections between the people of Indonesia and India.
Speaking about India’s democratic experience, President Prabowo said Indonesia has much to learn from the Election Commission of India, particularly its expertise in managing elections in a country of such enormous size and diversity while ensuring years of peaceful democratic governance.
He appreciated India’s ability to successfully conduct large-scale electoral processes involving millions of citizens across different regions, languages, and communities.
President Prabowo also highlighted India’s progress and achievements, stating that the accomplishments of India at the Union level as well as across its states are truly remarkable. He added that he closely follows India’s development journey and continues to observe the country’s transformation with great interest.
The Indonesian President’s remarks reflect the growing warmth in India-Indonesia relations, which are built on centuries-old civilizational links, cultural exchanges, and expanding cooperation in areas such as trade, defence, technology, education, and regional partnerships.
His comments come at a time when both countries are working to further strengthen their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and deepen collaboration as key partners in the Indo-Pacific region.
